From May 6, 2014 to October 10, 2015, the Musée du Quai Branly will host the exhibition “Tatoueurs, Tatoués”, the fruit of research into numerous objects gathered by curators Anne & Julien (founders of the HEY! magazine on modern art and pop culture) The exhibition will aim to explore the world and usage of tattooing around the world, and this practice as an artistic gesture.
Whether an object of fascination or an aesthetic ornament, a fashion phenomenon or a veritable philosophy of life, tattoos are now everywhere.
Among the objects on display are tattoos and objects related to ancient and ethnological tattoos, as well as contemporary ones: the world’s leading tattoo artists have created 13 volumes especially for the occasion (i.e. parts of the human body made from an experimental material that perfectly imitates the feel of the skin, on which they have worked), as well as some twenty “tattoo projects” painted on kakemono. Among the tattoo artists taking part in the exhibition: Tin-Tin, Filip Leu, Paul Booth, Chimé etc…
