To mark the release of the Hugo Man Music limited edition, Hugo fragrances gave free rein to three up-and-coming artists, Kate Boy, Kasper Bjørke and Nina Kraviz, to reinterpret well-known musical titles. Each artist selected his or her favorite song and “turned it upside down”, to produce an original version. The result is three unique, unexpected and totally reinvented songs. A great initiative!

HUGO and the world of music have come together on a number of occasions. The HUGO Tracks project, led by fashion house Hugo Boss, celebrates emerging artists and groups who, like HUGO, stand out for their creativity and singularity. It is aimed at musicians from all horizons who want to reinterpret their musical roots in electronic music. Kate Boy, Kasper Bjørke and Nina Kraviz, who had already worked with the brand on HUGO Tracks, were chosen to join forces with HUGO fragrances on this exciting project.

First launched in 1995, HUGO Man is now available in a limited edition. HUGO Man Music Each fragrance contains a code enabling exclusive download of the three tracks covered by the artists. HUGO Man is a fragrance characterized by an explosion of green apple and basil. The heart of geranium and patchouli accepts the flowery scents of lily of the valley and lavender, while the base of oakmoss, sandalwood and cedarwood opens with a fresh trail of vetiver. The whole is contemporary, adapted to today’s life, as was the first HUGO Man in 1995. It’s the fragrance of the man who wants to live his life without constraint, bypassing established rules, of the man who believes that an individual’s potential should be exploited to the full.

“HUGO fragrances are constantly reinventing themselves to keep up with the times. This is why we are particularly pleased to announce our partnership with these creative and innovative artists, who bring together all the values we believe in. “says Guillaume Tardy, General Manager of Procter & Gamble Prestige.

KATE BOY

Kate Boy is an electronic music group from Stockholm. It consists of Australian singer Kate Akhurst, and Swedish duo Markus Dextegen and Hampus Nordgren Hemlin; together they write, record and produce their songs. Kate Boy released their first single, Northern Lights, in January 2013 to great acclaim. The band embarked on a North American club tour in June 2013.
“To create your own identity, you have to be honest with yourself

when you’re working, and to be completely in tune with your surroundings.
with what you create. If what you create truly emanates from you, then there’s nothing stronger. ” Kate Boy

Kate Boy has chosen to cover the song “
A Girl Like You
“by Scottish singer-songwriter Edwyn Collins. The band have always been keen to interpret a song in a totally different way from their usual way, and that’s precisely why they chose this title. The lyrics ”
I’ve never met

a girl like you before
“were particularly inspiring, as they drew a parallel with the band’s very androgynous name: Kate Boy.

KASPER BJØRKE

Originally from Copenhagen, Kasper Bjørke is a producer and DJ. When it comes to electronic music, he has become one of Denmark’s most versatile and internationally renowned artists. His remixes cover just about every musical genre, from independent artists to international pop greats such as Moby. As a DJ, he has already performed at numerous festivals and legendary clubs around the globe, including Panorama Bar and Watergate in Berlin, Social Club and Rex in Paris, D Edge in Sao Paulo and Fabric in London. He is currently preparing the recording of his fourth solo album, due for release in 2014. “When I make music, I always try to develop and refine my own sounds. For me, there’s not much point in giving the same feel as someone else. You can let yourself be inspired, or interpret the music of other artists, but even then, you should always seek your own sound, your own expression in what you’re doing.” Kasper Bjørke

Kasper Bjorke

Kasper Bjorke

Kasper Bjørke chose the song “Bette Davis Eyes”, by American Kim Carnes, for his revisited title. Kasper has always been inspired by the music of the 1980s. That’s where his choice came from: for him, the song has a universal appeal, and many music-lovers feel a special affinity with it. As a DJ, Kasper has been bringing his remix of the original version to clubs for years. So he seized the opportunity to give this track an even more personal sound signature. Kasper also invited his colleague Jacob Bellens to sing for him. The two friends have been working together for years, and co-wrote some of the songs on the DJ’s two previous solo albums.

NINA KRAVIZ

Russian-born Nina Kraviz is both a DJ and producer. She began producing her own music in 2008, and forged her name in this world by playing in Moscow’s bars and clubs. For 2 years, she played every Friday in one of Moscow’s best-known clubs, Propaganda. Since then, she has released her eponymous album, accompanied by a world tour.
“What makes a person original is precisely because they don’t think about it – you can’t be original if it’s artificial. You have to do only what you really believe in.”

Nina Kraviz has selected the famous 1980s anthem “Africa” and adapted it in her own way. This song, one of Nina’s favorites, is a nostalgic choice, as she used to listen to it when she roamed the streets of Moscow. She enjoyed the good vibrations. She had always dreamed of reinventing a well-known song. It was a new challenge for Nina Kraviz, who had never really worked with pop music before.

DEEZER OPERATION

To extend the operation, HUGO Man Music is organizing a partnership with Deezer – an on-demand music streaming service that lets you listen to favorite artists, tracks, albums and create, exchange playlists – from January 24 to February 24, 2014. Thanks to a dedicated space for the 3 artists – Kasper Bjørke, Kate Boy and Nina Kraviz – it will be possible to listen to a preview sample of their remix. Users will be invited to vote for their favorite artist for a chance to win HUGO Man flasks, premium Deezer accounts, and even the chance to discover one of the three artists at a major private concert in the heart of Paris at the end of March.
