Nadav Perlman SS27: ROOTS, or Memory as Raw Material

“Memories of a Forgotten Home” — as part of Antwerp Fashion Week, designer Nadav Perlman presents a Spring/Summer 2027 collection that explores belonging, memory, and roots.

There is something about the title of this collection that defies translation—not because the English is untranslatable, but because the experience it refers to may well be. “Memories of a Forgotten Home”: memories of a forgotten home. Not lost, not destroyed—forgotten. That nuance says it all about Nadav Perlman’s vision for his Spring/Summer 2027 collection.

The designer presented the ROOTS collection during Antwerp Fashion Week, in a city that holds a unique place in the landscape of contemporary fashion—the birthplace of the Antwerp Six and a testing ground for a particular conception of clothing as thought. The choice of location is no accident: Antwerp allows for creative expressions that would struggle to find a place in Paris or Milan.

Memory as Couture

What Perlman offers with ROOTS is a personal archaeology translated into silhouettes. Clothing as an excavation—not to reconstruct an idealized past, but to inhabit the in-between: the space between what we once were and what we have become, between the place we left behind and the one we have not yet found.

This approach has a long history in conceptual fashion. But what sets ROOTS apart is its emotional texture. Uprooting is not treated here as an abstract concept or a political commentary—it is made tangible, woven into the garments themselves, into their fabrics, their cuts, and the way they drape or float on the body.

Antwerp as a sounding board

Each season, Antwerp Fashion Week showcases collections that challenge the viewer’s intellect. ROOTS follows in this tradition: it’s a collection that demands something from the viewer—one that doesn’t reveal itself immediately but unfolds gradually as you come to understand what it’s trying to say.

With this collection, Nadav Perlman establishes himself as one of the most interesting voices among a generation of designers who make identity—always fragile, always in flux—the primary focus of their work. In a Spring/Summer 2027 season that promises to be noisy, ROOTS chooses the language of the whisper. And that is precisely what makes it audible.
