In the heart of the Cour Carrée at the Louvre, Raf Simons for Christian Dior revisits the past to better understand the future. Following in the footsteps of couture, he borrowed the historic volumes of 18th-century frock coats and paniers, reinterpreting them and bringing them up to date with contemporary materials and lighter tapestry prints. The show opens with tapered silhouettes featuring wide, contrasting lapels at the bottom of sleeves and pants. Then bodies buttoned to French-style skirts, long shirt dresses adorned with floral prints and guipure, and pilot suits took center stage. Bermuda shorts with a drawstring waist are paired with a sleeveless jacket with a volume tipped back, worn with boots that slip on like socks. Lace stand-up collars are worn under dresses. A wardrobe of extreme modernity, already leaving its mark on the history of the house…
