Last week, Champagne Drappier organized a press luncheon to present its finest vintages and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Grande Sendrée. Luxsure was there.

A Drappier press luncheon is always a small event. The event took place at the renowned Parisian restaurant “Itinéraires”. Some of the finest names in the press were present (Marianne, l’Express, Bettane et Desseauve…)
By way of amuse-bouche, we enjoyed a shot of peas in a small tube filled with a few drops of Drappier carte d’or. An explosive blend!

I come to shake the hand of André Drappier, the patriarch, who says, “Hi, handsome! Despite some difficulty in getting around, the man retains his unfailing good humor and quick wit. I really like this character.
At my table, Yannick Desmarest, the new cellar master, is really happy to be joining Drappier. He tells me about his career and his desire to make champagne without suffering. He loves Champagne passionately.

Michel Drappier makes a short speech, in which he talks about the new vintages and his children. The two are, in fact, intimately linked. Hugo Drappier, one of his sons, is introduced to the audience.

We then taste a cuvée that has been immersed in the Atlantic Ocean in the Bay of Saint-Malo for several months. The beverage is full of energy.

The lunch is made up of beautiful food and wine pairings. Some are a little provocative, but there’s not a false note in sight.
This meal was also an opportunity to present some very fine boxes to celebrate different vintages of Grande Sendrée, which in 2014 celebrates its 40th anniversary.
