Located in Montreal’s Old Port on McGill Street, Ikanos transports us to the Mediterranean with its revisited, modern dishes inspired by Greek and Mediterranean cuisine.
This inspiration is reflected in the chic decor by BlazysGerard, who also designed two lounges for the Hilton Lac Leamy, reminding us of the colors (blue and white) of Greece, without falling into the perfect kitsch of the latter. The restaurant, built in a former loft, offers open spaces and an incredible luminosity provided by the large bay windows, which at nightfall delight us with their subdued, intimate light.
This makes L’Ikanos the perfect place for business meetings at lunchtime, a chic and romantic evening or a night out with friends at the bar. In addition to a warm, personalized welcome from the maître d’hôtel Simon and his waiters, the sommelier offers a more than satisfactory wine list, giving us plenty of room to manoeuvre in our choice of beverage.
As far as taste and flavor are concerned, seafood and foie gras blend together in the hands of chef-owner Constant Mentzas, who has been immersed in cooking since he was a child. His Seared Scallops dish features a terrine of foie gras la canardière, apricot and caper salsa, on a bed of celeriac purée. Other equally wonderful dishes include Grilled Octopus with a tapenade of dried figs and Kalamata olives, boiled onions and pine nuts.
The chef doesn’t just keep us on our toes, he also introduces us to Greek culture and its spirit of sharing, with starters designed to be shared, such as the trio of tzatziki, tyrokafteri and melitzanosalata sauces, with homemade pita bread, or the fried zucchini chips with garlic sauce, kefalograviera.
Restaurant Ikanos continues to amaze us with its ongoing reinvention, with a new personalized tasting menu available from the end of September, allowing customers to compose their own menus with the help of the chef for guidance. One thing is certain: Ikanos has become one of our favorite places to dine with friends. We can’t wait to try out the new tasting menu!
