Welcome to the wonderful world of Lebanese designer Georges Hobeika, who presented his Haute Couture Autumn Winter 2016 2017 collection at Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture.
This show takes glamour, luxury and enchantment to a whole new level. Georges Hobeika is the “good fairy” with the magic wand that turns the women who wear his dresses into veritable creatures out of a fantastic fairy tale. The silhouettes of mermaids emerge not from the water, but from an ocean of flowers and light.
Pastel colors dominate the background: blue, pink, ivory, a powdery palette, pearl gray, invaded by sumptuous floral embroideries composed like veritable, artistically elaborate bouquets of flowers. It’s a festival of luxurious fabrics: silk, satin, tulle, chiffon, organza, gazar, and a veritable explosion of embroidery and Swarovski crystals.
The designer is also very fond of the little bow, sometimes with a crystal in the center, 50s-style. Head jewels play an important role in the composition of the outfit, as do small bags, all embroidered to match the dress. The pumps also feature a subtle, refined floral touch, with a floral strap. Some sheath dresses are entirely covered with flowers made of embroidery, rajouts and multicolored pearls, while others are decorated with a cascade of flowers in frosted ivory or pearl-gray tones, reminiscent of winter ice cream but treated in a luminous, sparkling way.
Many bustiers in “nude” lace, embroidered with long flowery stems, with the occasional dragonfly here and there, play with transparency. A series of models offer more fluid, streamlined styles for long dresses in silky materials. We also note the elegance and refinement of certain models featuring a garland of little bows, sometimes with wide front or side slits.
Then purple, violet, deep red and green colors appear, embroidered with long cascades of pearls and crystals reminiscent of frosty winter landscapes. Two bridal gowns: one short and one long, very Oriental in inspiration, round off the show. It’s truly a fashion show that takes us into a world of dreams, a fairytale universe between the glittering ice of winter, a floral explosion and the magic of a firework display of color and light.
