But that’s without taking into account the ability of designers to experiment, to dare, to give their own definition to the couture version of summer clothing. Working with a single fabric, they print, embroider and transform it to create new pieces that end up intertwining like flowers growing out of dresses and clinging to the straw of hats. Viktor&Rolf’s signature play on volume is evident in the white petticoats that protrude from the dresses, or the bows on the collars that reveal the shoulders. Of particular note: the work on colors, from purple to burgundy, through orange and blue tones reminiscent of African wax fabrics.
