1057-02_01_sc_v2comIn the heart of Montreal, on a private vacant lot, artist KANVA invites us to dream under the open sky for two months. Made up of 30 white-painted bed frames, KANVA’s installation highlights the contrasts between public and private space with lightness and poetry.

From July 18 onwards, you’ll be able to discover thirty pretty, mismatched bed carcasses, salvaged from all over Montreal. An original way of placing the bed, an element evoking intimacy, in the collective space. In fact, the work plays with a number of borders, and questions the multiple contrasts it provokes. For example, the pure, delicate whiteness of the frames contrasts poetically with the sturdiness and usual greyness of standard urban furniture. But KANVA takes this reflection between two seemingly diametrically opposed spaces a step further. Indeed, 30 LITS underlines the future vocation of the vacant lot on which it stands: a future 30-room university residence. Between singularity and diversity, between each unique setting and the uniqueness of these small human communities, KANVA aims to offer an artistic interlude in the heart of the city, to reflect, slow down or even dream…

Exhibition 30 LITS by KANVA – from July 18, 2013
