Fashion school shows are sometimes no match for catwalk week. Such was the case last Thursday at the Instituto Marangoni’s annual graduation show in Paris. With students coming from all over the world, the universe and culture of each one can be perceived through their creations. Turbans for India, and even a couture version of the burqa, at the risk of shocking the audience.

The showroom was magnificent, with a wall of flowers (inspired by Dior?) and an immaculate catwalk. The selected students each proposed five silhouettes, for both men and women. The high quality of the materials and the perfectly mastered cuts revealed the great potential of these students, with garments that didn’t look at all like they’d been made “from scratch” – on the contrary, this was real couture.

Let’s not forget that this event often propels young designers to the forefront of the fashion scene, as it offers an opportunity to show the industry their often exceptional abilities.
