As part of China in Paris, Liu Fang, a young Chinese designer, undoubtedly showed the extent of her talent. For many years now, the French Prêt à Porter Federation has been working with the China National Garnement Association to establish exchanges between designers from the two countries. Exchanging technologies, knowledge and traditions for the benefit of both cultures. This alliance has enabled us to discover a number of young Chinese talents. Liu Fang is undoubtedly one of them.
In 2010/11, she won the Best Press Attention Award, and the Innovative Knitting Award. Like Schiatsy Cheng, who conquered Paris in the 2000s, Liu Fang seems to be revealing her possibilities. Since 2011, she has been appearing in Paris Fashion Week showrooms, demonstrating the value of her creative approach. She demonstrates great technical mastery and refines her style from collection to collection. By tackling cashmere, she has transfigured its appearance. A radically innovative approach, she sculpts it.
The term is apt, since her concept is three-dimensional. Thanks to her, cashmere takes on a new dimension, becoming art. Her choice of monochrome tends to reinforce this impression.
Her first show in Paris, unveils her Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
The designer is relentless and offers real constructions. One by one, the pieces give a glimpse of her tenacity in letting the material express itself.
What precise terms should we use for our creations? Sweaters, dresses, the terms seem so outdated.
Whatever the case, the emphasis is on the upper part of the pieces. Like elegant suits of armor, chimerical architectures, they evolve. Front, back, every aspect is studied and worked on.
Paluopo, the cashmere brand, no doubt aware of her poetic abilities, hired her. She is now their artistic director.
An impressive work to be encouraged. A revelation, Art, Fashion, whatever! A spark of creation, certainly!
