Gaëlle Baumann: poker’s new star shines in Vegas

The Las Vegas Main Event! It’s the most prestigious poker tournament in the world. The soccer equivalent of the Champions League. It takes place every year during the first half of July. To take part in this tournament is a dream in itself, but to come out on top is an exceptional achievement. Gaëlle Baumann, 28, came 10th out of over 6,500 players. Quite a feat! It had been 17 years since a woman had ranked so highly. Just a few steps away from the mythical final table to be held in October. It’s so infuriating to come so close. But what a journey!

The young Strasbourg native, a member of the Winamax Pro Team, performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament, even becoming Chipleader – the player with the biggest stack in the Main Event – on the eve of Day 3. Gaëlle Baumann was the only French representative among the 27 players still in the running to reach the semi-finals. Elimination after elimination, only 10 players remained. But after ten dream days, and over 60 hours of poker, Gaëlle Baumann’s journey came to a halt at the “gates of paradise”. With a tenth-place finish in the WSOP Main Event, Gaëlle thus achieved the best female performance at the WSOP in 17 years, and revealed an immense talent. For her first World Series of Poker as a Winamax player, Gaëlle Baumann played it wise, putting just three tournaments on her schedule: a $2,500 where she reached 123rd place ($5,265), the Ladies where she reached the semi-finals ($7,716) and then this famous Main Event, where she finished 10th, taking home $590,422!
Women are sometimes scorned in this very masculine, even misogynistic, world. Gaëlle Baumann is sure to put a stop to that. The pro player is very active on Twitter.

Don’t hesitate to follow it.
