In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Tiger, the forerunner of ASICS today. Mr. Onitsuka
believed that through sport he could help Japan rebuild after the devastation of World War II, and mobilize a new generation of young people to shape the country’s future society.
Mr.Onitsuka strongly believed that sport not only strengthened physical health, but also taught
young people discipline, respect and manners. Sport encouraged them to do their best, to
understand the importance of teamwork and to realize the importance of fair play and regular training.
