GIVENCHY BY RICCARDO TISCI
Fall/Winter 2012/13 Men’s Collection
This Fall/Winter season gives Riccardo Tisci the opportunity to probe the American dream. The obsessions of his childhood resurface. The American flag and the male myth of the minotaur merge in graphic sportswear and sharp suits. After 7 seasons as Givenchy’s men’s artistic director, this show reinforces Riccardo Tisci’s signature of clean, elegant silhouettes combined with luxurious sportswear.
Architectural trompe l’oeil superimpositions revitalize pea coats in wool or wool and leather. Denim fabric is subjected to a multitude of washes, from the palest blue to deep indigo. Zippered jackets with red cotton grosgrain applications play on all these shades of blue. Craftsmanship is reflected in a pony vest embroidered with pony pellets, worn over a half-bomber/half-perfecto leather jacket. Prints dot the collection, from a fade-out of a man’s face and a minotaur’s head to multiple reinterpretations of the star-spangled banner.
Coats, shirts, T-shirts and sweaters are adorned with coated enamel stars, jet crystals and face-enhancing crystals. A black powder-grain jumpsuit with red sleeves is worn under a black coat with a red trompe l’oeil vest encrusted with a geometric semiset of jet crystals.
Black, navy and brown are awakened by scarlet, ivory and white.
Footwear fuses gangster sneakers and flower-topped derbies inspired by those worn by Italian immigrants arriving in the US in the 1940s. Jewelry brightened faces with jet-crystal earrings or enamelled stars, and nose piercings in gilded metal or gunmetal embellished with crystals.
Music composed and performed live by Discodromo.
