Omar Kashoura: how about taking the men’s wardrobe down a notch?

In the hustle and bustle of the London Show Room Men, Omar Kashoura shows us his latest collection.

Another product of the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin. Omar Kashoura is an East London-based menswear designer and winner of several fashion competitions, including Best International Menswear Designer and the Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award. Buoyed by these successes, the label has gone from strength to strength since its creation in 2005.

The designer stands out for his modern play on combinations of materials, patterns and colors, each more surprising than the last.

The Kashoura man has the silhouette of a modern gentleman, with a typically English elegance, but not so traditional.

This winter, the coat is belted, pleated pants are pleated and adorned with a tone-on-tone belt, and a sparkling shirt and tie illuminate a charcoal suit. A subtle trompe-l’œil clutch is the height of refinement.

So as not to change his habits, the designer places materials and motifs in unexpected yet relevant ways.

After the pebbled patterns of this summer’s suits. In winter, discreet graphic florals add a touch of whimsy to pants, shirts, scarves and bags.

In fact, why wear a suit in the traditional way? This winter, we prefer a zip-up, crew-neck knit rather than a shirt.

The latter, moreover, receive identical treatment. On rare occasions, it’s worn under a jacket. Men prefer to wear it on its own, with or without a scarf, or under a shirred, sparkling windbreaker. The designer prefers to show it off. And he’s absolutely right, so rich is the work on details and finishes. This must-have piece is enhanced by a discreet bib or highlighted by a line of design, and embellished with an armband.

A rather casual and pragmatic wardrobe for everyday life, to adapt to frenetic London life. However, the designer wanted Fall-Winter 2010 to reflect his image. In other words, a collection that is at once elegant, casual and underlined by a certain indifference to codes.

Are you ready to play by its rules?
