Journées Particulières 2026: Looking at What Comes Before the Object

From 16 to 18 October, LVMH invites visitors to follow the gestures of making and conservation. Tiffany, Celine, Paris Match and Hennessy show four ways of making a savoir-faire legible.

A finished piece of jewellery often conceals the succession of operations that made it possible. For the Journées Particulières 2026, LVMH announces in New York a tour of the design and innovation workshop of Tiffany & Co., from drawing to setting. The group states that a Bird on a Rock brooch involves more than eight craftspeople over roughly fifty hours.

The journey matters as much as the piece
On 16, 17 and 18 October, other venues are due to open their doors. At Celine, on rue Vivienne in Paris, the programme follows pattern-making, cutting, assembly and embroidery. The Paris Match archives present the filing, documentation and digitisation of photographs. Hennessy offers a reading of its territory from a solar-powered boat on the Charente.

What these situations have in common is that they shift attention to the intermediaries. A garment presupposes a pattern; a preserved photograph requires identification; a piece of jewellery results from adjustments that its final brilliance does not tell. A visit becomes instructive when it helps one understand these dependencies rather than simply admire the result.

Making the work understandable
Being present in a workshop does not, however, guarantee transmission. One must be able to follow what the person is doing, identify the difficulty and understand why an operation requires this technique. The time spent in meeting and the quality of the explanation matter as much as the rarity of the place.

The announced programme provides precise entry points for this kind of reading. It does not yet allow us to judge how the visits will actually unfold. For the public, the right question to take away might be very simple: which step of this object could I no longer take for granted? The terms specific to each venue are to be consulted in the official catalogue of experiences.
