Fifty years after the 1976 model, TAG Heuer revives the Monza without seeking to make it a literal reproduction. The new Monza Flyback Chronograph keeps the signs of a racing watch, but shifts its centre of gravity toward contemporary materials and movement.
The case measures forty-two millimetres and adopts forged carbon. The dial’s red accents echo the codes of the original Monza, while the overall architecture favours an immediately sporty reading.
The most defensible point, however, remains the movement. TAG Heuer equips this edition with the in-house calibre TH20-12, COSC-certified and fitted with a flyback function. This allows the chronograph to be reset to zero and instantly relaunched for a new measurement without first stopping the mechanism.
The edition is limited to five hundred numbered pieces. Its presentation at Monza, during a Formula 1 weekend, naturally closes the symbolic loop opened in 1976.
The result does not erase the lineage. It simply makes it less nostalgic.
