At the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, summer is savored through a vertical tasting of Grands Crus

There are a handful of places on the French Riviera where time seems to pass differently. The Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, is one of them. Perched on the peninsula between Nice and Monaco, nestled among umbrella pines and the Mediterranean, it has witnessed enough centuries and celebrities to have learned never to rush. In this spirit, from June through September 2026, the hotel is offering “La Table des Grands Crus”—a series of intimate wine-tasting dinners that turn every evening into a journey through time.

The setting is the Salon des Collections, an intimate space whose very name evokes a cabinet of curiosities rather than a dining room. Alessandro Nigro Imperiale leads each evening, revealing the wines’ stories, terroirs, and subtleties—all of which can be explored through vertical tastings of Grands Crus spanning several consecutive vintages. For those unfamiliar with the practice, a vertical tasting involves sampling the same wine across different vintages: it’s like hearing the same estate speak in different languages depending on the weather, the vineyard, and the mood of the season.

In the kitchen, Michelin-starred Chef Yoric Tièche—whose restaurant, Le Cap, located within the hotel, is one of the most sought-after destinations on the Riviera—creates gourmet pairings designed to be in perfect harmony with each wine. The word “harmony” should be taken seriously here: this isn’t a set menu that rotates, but rather cuisine that engages with what’s in the glasses, anticipating the tannins, acidity, and finish.

This type of event—a wine-tasting dinner, a small number of guests, an exceptional setting—taps into a very specific trend of the times: a weariness with mass-market experiences, a longing for intimacy, for something tailor-made, for a moment that can never be repeated. “La Table des Grands Crus” is not just another themed dinner. It is a promise: that on that evening, in that room, with those wines and that chef, something will happen that has no exact equivalent.

Reservations are made directly with the hotel. A detailed program of the evening events, including the vintages and wineries featured, is available upon request. The Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, located on Boulevard du Général de Gaulle in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, has remained one of the most iconic destinations on the French Riviera since its opening in 1908.
