Ralph Lauren unveils Team USA’s outfit for the closing ceremony of the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games and once again demonstrates its commitment to sustainable development
Ralph Lauren today unveiled the outfit to be worn by Team USA at the Closing Ceremony of the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In keeping with its commitment to sustainable development, the fashion house has endeavored to use more sustainable materials and manufacturing methods.
“Ralph Lauren is extremely proud to offer Team USA pieces that combine integrity and commitment to a cause. For these Games, we’ve adopted a modern aesthetic that stands out for its novelty and originality, while being created with sustainability in mind. As someone who puts his heart and soul into deploying solutions that have the potential to dramatically reduce our impact and the impact of our industry as a whole, we’re proud to have created garments for Team USA that are the result of real thinking along these lines,” explains David Lauren, Ralph Lauren’s Director of Brand and Innovation.
At the closing ceremony, Team USA will be wearing a plaid down jacket with hood made from recycled polyester and recycled down, fleece pants (for men) and fleece leggings (for women), gloves and boots made from recycled polyester, and a patterned turtleneck sweater and cap made from Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified American wool. Indeed, Ralph Lauren now sources its wool from RWS-certified producers, and has committed to ensuring that by 2025, its wool will be 100% RWS-certified or recycled. Moreover, the designer is proud to announce that every element of this outfit is made in the USA.
Ralph Lauren has had the honor of dressing the US team since 2008. Unlike most Olympic and Paralympic teams, American athletes do not benefit from national funding. That’s why a portion of sales from the Ralph Lauren Team USA collection is donated to Team USA, with the Closing Ceremony outfit available for purchase on Ralphlauren.com from October 28. Ralph Lauren has also designed an outfit for the Opening Ceremony, as well as off-event pieces to be worn in the Olympic Village, which will also be available for sale in the coming months.
