The perpetual calendar by Chopard Manufacture
Inaugurated in 2016 on the occasion of Chopard Manufacture’s 20th anniversary, the L.U.C Perpetual Twin timepiece stands out for its successful alliance between an expression of Haute Horlogerie that appeals to purists and the comfort of an automatic steel wristwatch designed for everyday wear. Indeed, it remains the only chronometer-certified perpetual calendar in steel on the market today, reflecting the uncompromising commitment of Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele to superior quality in every one of his watch creations.
Chopard now presents this modern timepiece in robust steel, with an even more refined dial in a seductive shade of deep blue. The L.U.C Perpetual Twin is also presented for the first time in 18-carat pink gold, with a subtle grey dial.
Clean lines and balance
Both dials emphasize tonal contrasts with sunray satin finishes, setting the scene for a display where information is presented elegantly and with absolute clarity. The large date is the focal point of this layout, with sub-dials for the perpetual calendar day, month and leap year indications, and the small seconds at 6 o’clock. Minimalist indexes add a touch of purity to this discreet, perfectly balanced aesthetic.
Perfect technical control
Visible through a sapphire crystal caseback, the movement that powers the L.U.C Perpetual Twin timepiece, the L.U.C 96.22-L self-winding mechanical caliber, testifies to true technical mastery and craftsmanship. Crafted by Chopard’s most talented watchmakers, it is hand-finished in keeping with tradition, and is chronometer-certified by the experts at the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). Guaranteeing maximum precision and reliability, this distinction is rarely awarded to perpetual calendar watches.
Chopard’s watchmakers have also ensured that elegance is an integral part of this timepiece, from the movement right through to the casing, thanks to a 22-carat gold micro-rotor integrated into the movement and enabling the entire mechanism to be restricted to just 6 mm thick. Chopard Twin technology, meanwhile, employs two barrels to deliver a generous 65-hour power reserve, meaning the watch will continue to run unworn for more than two and a half days.
