Dr. Martens joins forces with its first historical partner, designer Yohji Yamamoto, for the fourth episode of the 1460: Remastered project.

For this anniversary month, Dr. Martens invites a legendary Japanese designer who occupies a special place in the brand’s history. The fourth exclusive pair in the 1460 Remastered series is presented in collaboration with designer Yohji Yamamoto.

Yohji Yamamoto needs no introduction. His ability to defy the conventions of structure and gender has put him firmly in the history books. Defying preconceived notions of men’s wardrobes worn by women for decades, the choice of our iconic, classic, unisex silhouette seemed self-evident. And Yohji’s links with Dr. Martens go beyond design. The first designer to create a pair in collaboration with the brand, he has also been an unconditional fan of our boots since 1981. He was also one of the first designers to bring Docs to the catwalk in the early 2000s. A master of modern tailoring, Yohji has been defying fashion diktats for over 50 years. Renowned for subverting traditional perceptions of clothing, and unabashedly shifting the boundaries between masculine and feminine, Yohji also refocuses on the fundamentals of design: craftsmanship and practicality.

2 words engraved in Dr. Martens DNA. And just like our first collaboration in 2007, when Yamamoto added a side zip – an idea motivated by his desire to take advantage of our boots by making them more accessible – his admiration for the brand and his unconventional spirit shine through again in 2020. Through this collaboration, he bursts forth more flamboyantly than ever.

“This creation is a meeting of 2 non-conformist worlds. A symbol of rebellion”
The 1460 YY Web shoe is made from Smooth Splice leather, embellished with a laser-engraved design: a spider’s web, an emblematic motif used by Yohji in his creations for decades. The laces are held in place by a decorative spider, a unique creation specially designed for this collaboration. The tongue features Yamamoto’s signature embossed on the leather, as well as the iconic yellow stitching and gold eyelets.

Collection available from April 25 on drmartens.com and at a selection of exclusive partners.
