After winning the “Best Baggage Initiative” award, the RIMOWA Electronic Tag has now becomea reality. Thanks to this innovative device presented by RIMOWA in collaboration with Lufthansa, the digitalization of travel is now a reality.
Lufthansa is the first airline to integrate this function into its mobile application, following an exclusive agreement. The company has operated 800 flights with RIMOWA’s Electronic Tag.
Based on very positive customer feedback and the perfect integration of airport procedures with the Electronic Tag system, the new technology has attracted the interest of other companies.
Passengers can now use RIMOWA baggage with Electronic Tag on Lufthansa flights as well as on United Airlines and Austrian Airlines.
However, negotiations are underway with 30 airlines. Further partners will be announced in the coming weeks.
“The launch of RIMOWA’s Electronic Tag has been a great success. The various feedbacks confirm that customers love being able to check their luggage while saving time. The system represents the start of the digital travel revolution,” says Sven Lepschy, Vice President of RIMOWA Electronic Tag.
The first digital solution for baggage boarding passes makes travel more comfortable, faster and safer.

The components are a RIMOWA suitcase, an airline mobile application and the RIMOWA Electronic Tag with E INK Mobius (TM) display integrated into the luggage.
The product proved user-friendly and intuitive, making check-in particularly pleasant.
By the end of the year, the App will be enriched with new functions. What’s more, the E INK Mobius (TM) display can be personalized with the initials of the owner’s name, as well as an image of his or her choice.
The suitcase display transmits a secret code exclusively to the owner’s smartphone.
“With its complex structure created to guarantee luggage safety, this system is the ideal solution for an intelligent suitcase.”
