DOMAINE DE L’OLIVETTE
Mourvèdre likes to be kept waiting, and not just in the vineyard. It persists in making itself desirable once bottled. That’s its nature. You have to be patient, but when it deigns to arrive, majestic, sublime, elegant, it reveals its charms little by little. Such is Mourvèdre, which reveals all its virtuosity over time. It needs the Bandol terroir (soil, subsoil, optimal sunshine, maritime influences and prevailing winds) to mature slowly, completely. Its rich tannins contribute to the extraordinary ageing potential of Bandol reds. The older it gets, the more seductive it becomes.
On the Domaine de l’Olivette’s poorly fertile, limestone-rich, well-drained slopes, it is cultivated with respect for the environment: reasoned interventions on the soil’s biological fertility, natural soil improvers, no chemical weedkillers, no pesticides. When young, Domaine de l’Olivette Bandol reds are as elegant as they are virile. Over the years, they acquire a nobility of balance and roundness.
Surrounded by Le Castellet on the left and La Cadière d’Azur on the right, Domaine de L’Olivette covers 55 hectares, mainly in the Le Castellet area, with a few plots in the communes of Le Beausset and Saint Cyr. The vines are grown on terraces, with respect for the environment: reasoned interventions to maintain the biological fertility of the clay-limestone soil, natural soil improvers, no chemical weedkillers, no pesticides. High Environmental Value certification.
Tasting this 2012 vintage reveals aromas of ripe red fruit, liquorice, undergrowth and spices. Full, long and persistent on the palate, supported by a fine structure. Fine, silky tannins.
