KRUG 2002 – A TRIBUTE TO NATURE
The House of Krug is pleased to present Krug 2002, its new vintage, the story of a formidably generous year of abundant fruit, preciously captured by its Chef de Caves.

The advent of a Krug Vintage is also the moment to discover what makes the House so original, its unique approach to the creation and spirit of its Champagnes.
THE YEAR 2002. CLIMATE AND HARVEST
2002 was a mild and generous year, with almost ideal ripening conditions for the grapes. A uniformly warm year with few climatic variations. So 2002 was rather calm and serene, but at the end a little whimsical in its own way.
The 2002 harvest was one of the hottest in Champagne, even though the summer’s lack of sunshine was a cause for concern. Fortunately, just before the harvest, a fine late season, as is often the case in Champagne, worked perfectly to complete the ripening of the grapes.

KRUG 2002. A TRIBUTE TO NATURE
Nothing is written in advance, everything is a waiting game, an omen. For months, nature and its circumstances come together, falling into place like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, until the final moment, the final piece of the puzzle – the harvest. Then, like a wonderful surprise, the year appears in its entirety, with its undeniable personality and character.
By dedicating a Millésime to it, Krug will capture its quintessence and reveal its subtle fulfillment.
Krug 2002 is the expression of an infinite complicity with nature.
“Nature’s generosity deserved a tribute of its own. It thus became clear to me that Krug 2002 would be called ‘Hommage à la nature’,” says Eric Lebel, Cellar Master at Krug.
“From the very first tastings, you can see in the wines, parcel by parcel, all the generosity of the climate and nature, expressed in round, appealing, full-bodied wines, rich in fruit and particularly aromatic. Length on the palate is also a constant in all our wines. Each sample, each clear wine, astonishes and seems to be a blend in itself. One word comes to mind: a hymn to fruit. Citrus and candied citrus, exotic fruit, white fruit, yellow fruit, fresh fruit or stewed fruit, the fruit is there, present, intense, in a gourmet, delicate crescendo.
The final creation is a dialogue between Pinot Noir (40%) and Chardonnay (39%), complemented by a final touch of Meunier (21%) that brings out the true Krug character,” continues Eric Lebel.
