Getaway at the Balthazar Hotel & Spa in Rennes

I’ve just come back from a great stay in Rennes, where I discovered the city’s 1st 5-star hotel: the Hotel Balthazar. The decor is a perfect blend of old and new, with a warm, reassuring, comforting feel that makes you feel “at home”.

Located right next to Rennes town hall, the palace really is in the ideal location if, like me, you want to discover the city in a short space of time.

I loved the atmosphere of the place, full of books, but also little animals here and there on the shelves, adding a touch of whimsy that’s a real pleasure.

What really delighted me at the Hotel Balthazar was the very green patio, a real touch of freshness nestled in the heart of the hotel.

At night, with its lights, it’s just magical! The place to be for a romantic moment.

Restaurant La Table de Balthazar, sublime!

The gastronomic restaurant “La Table de Balthazar” offers fresh produce (from the market) prepared with great care. The cuisine is truly fine, and the presentation impeccable. A must when you’re in Rennes (of course, the restaurant is open to non-residents of the hotel).

The breakfast offered by the hotel is royal, nothing is missing! but nothing! With the Trianon Palace, these are currently the only 2 places in France where there was so much choice.

There were different kinds of cheese (usually I can only find 2!), pancakes, eggs, salmon (same thing, I can’t find it everywhere), homemade cakes, and panna cota, my favorite dessert – it was the first time I’d found it at the buffet. And of course there’s the traditional fruit, pastries, jams and cereals. A very pleasant surprise indeed.

The icing on the cake is a Nuxe spa on level -1. A relaxing message with the legendary Huile Prodigieuse!

The spa features a small pool for swimming against the current and various massaging jets. There’s also a beautiful hammam and a sauna. The sensory shower, however, was my favorite! A shower with essential oils and different sounds and lights. You’re transported to lots of different places, like the tropics and even the North Pole – I love it, it’s a real must-see.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Le Balthazar Hôtel & Spa in Rennes. Honestly, I can’t find a single negative about this place. The staff are very professional, the welcome is warm, and they’ll give you lots of advice on things to see in the city.
