Situated on the edge of the Landes forest and the slopes of the Gers, in the heart of the “Grand-Bas-Armagnac” region, Château de Lacquy produces armagnacs of excellence using ancestral know-how based on pure tradition. Its XO is the benchmark for the Bas-Armagnacs it produces.
XO de Château de Lacquy is a blend of armagnacs from different years, selected for their specific qualities: aromas, length on the palate, color… It is composed of 60% Baco, 30% Ugni-Blanc and 10% Colombard from vines planted on fine quartz clay sands, colored by small quantities of iron hydroxides and clay-loam sands on the surface. The wines are distilled at 52°C in a continuous-heating alembic, the youngest armagnac used in the XO being distilled in 1997. The armagnacs are then aged in 420-liter pedunculate oak barrels (50% of which are new), matured in the strictest tradition, constantly observed by the cellar master, blended and bottled without additives of any kind.
The XO is very slightly reduced during blending, from 47° to 43° (around 8%).the color of Château de Lacquy XO is a deep brown with a green rim. The nose is very expressive and sweet, with notes of candied walnut, oak, vanilla, dried fig and chocolate. On the palate, this Bas-Armagnac is complex and ripe. The finish is long and creamy, with notes of spice and vanilla (Andreas Larsson, World’s Best Sommelier 2007). The XO is sold in its book box at the best wine merchants at an average retail price of €90, and in its Helios decanter at an average retail price of €100.
