Walter Van Beirendonck’s exploration of materials and shapes gives rise to new silhouettes. From the simplicity of last season’s garage, Walter Van Beirendonck moves to the salons of the Hôtel d’Evreux in the heart of Place Vendôme. This ease of changing space and spirit is perfectly reflected in the clothes, where the exploration of materials and shapes gives rise to new silhouettes. Long, transparent plastic tunics are worn over colored pants sewn with the designer’s name at the waist. Coats become capes on the opposite arm, playing on duality, with different materials on the back and dreamlike designs. Collages and assemblages are as important as the winks in these XXL jewels. Of particular note is the jewel depicting an anal plug, in reference to Paul McCarthy’s giant work of art erected on Place Vendôme and eventually removed following widespread criticism…
