An invitation to discover and share Krug Grande Cuvée.

A gift box illustrated by Alice d’Orglandes.

Maison Krug presents the Joseph gift set for the holidays; a refined gift to share a unique moment. Two “Le Joseph” crystal glasses, designed by Cristallerie Riedel and named in homage to Joseph Krug, founder of the House, accompany the bottle, to complete the Krug Grande Cuvée tasting experience.

Inspired by the House’s philosophy and the vision of its founder, French illustrator Alice d’Orglandes chose to depict a singular tasting moment for the Joseph box, an invitation to share.

Krug Grande Cuvée is the emblematic signature of the House of Krug since 1843: the most generous expression of Krug Champagne delivered every year, regardless of the vagaries of the climate.

Krug follows each parcel individually to preserve the character of each wine, and thus takes the art of blending to its highest level by recreating Krug Grande Cuvée each year. Some wines are preserved in the reserve wine library for future blending.

To compose Krug Grande Cuvée, Eric Lebel, Cellar Master at Maison Krug, selects over 120 wines from 250 wines from the year’s harvest, and 150 wines from the reserve wine library, from over 10 different years.

This blend gives Krug Grande Cuvée a rich mosaic of aromas and flavors, impossible to obtain from a single harvest.

Cellaring for at least six years gives Krug Grande Cuvée its incredible elegance and finesse.

It takes more than twenty years to create a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée, a symbol of the philosophy and expertise of the House of Krug, the first prestige cuvée to be recreated every year, surpassing the very notion of vintage.

The recently unveiled Krug mobile app is a quick and easy way to discover the story behind each bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée and access all the information on smartphones and tablets. Users can instantly identify their Krug bottles by scanning the Krug ID – the six-digit number on the bottle’s back label. This function is also available on the Krug.com website.

Le Joseph

Two crystal glasses, specially designed by Cristallerie Riedel for Krug, accompany the bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée. Named “Le Joseph” in homage to the House’s founder, Joseph Krug, this instrument was created to enhance the tasting of Krug Champagnes.

The Joseph required a multitude of trials to design.

Krug’s obsession with detail led master glassmakers Riedel to revisit their technical mastery. In the first trial, 15 glasses were presented to Krug for tasting. Two were selected. They gave rise to 13 new prototypes, each offering a particular sensation, such is the generosity of Krug Grande Cuvée.

At the second tasting session, Eric Lebel and the oenology team chose Le Joseph, an expression of Riedel sublimating Krug Grande Cuvée.

The Joseph is made of crystal: only this precious material possesses the power to sublimate the aromas and perfectly illuminate the golden robe of Krug Grande Cuvée. It magnifies its incredible bouquet, amplifying its olfactory and gustatory facets and expressing the sensitivity of its aromas.

Its ample shape, designed for Krug Grande Cuvée, allows the bubbles to flourish.

Made from a single piece, the chalice has been stretched to shape the foot, which is particularly elongated, offering an elegant grip.
