A look back at the history of a unique fragrance
The story of Giorgio Beverly Hills® is the result of two years of intense research and more than a hundred trials at the world’s leading perfumers’ houses, who had created fragrances for Yves Saint Laurent, Estée Lauder and Lancôme. But it was finally in 1981, in the laboratories of Grasse, France, that the precious liquid was created. On February 27, 1981, Gale, wife of the brand’s founder, received the long-awaited sample in Beverly Hills.
Code name? J-9186, the five-flower juice. Perfected by noses Harry Cutler, M.L. Quince and Francis Camail of Florasynth-Lautier, Giorgio Beverly Hills® was officially launched in November 1981.

Gale is a fulfilled woman. With tenacity and the obsession of a trailblazer, she searched for the perfect alchemy: an exuberant, sunny olfactory identity for the famous boutique of her husband and partner, Fred Hayman, a mecca in upmarket California.

The story of this fragrance is also the story of FRED HAYMAN. In 1961, on Rodeo Drive, at the corner of Dayton Way, one of Beverly Hills’ most affluent avenues, Fred Hayman opened one of the most innovative boutiques of his generation, one of the first concept stores on the West Coast.

The multi-brand Giorgio Beverly Hills® store will forever leave its mark on the history of luxury: reading room, pool table, fireplace, oak bar for the gentlemen to drink and relax, while the ladies have all the time in the world to try on a wide range of chic outfits… which will be delivered to their door the next day in a Rolls Royce! The best customers are even offered Waterford crystal pieces.
With the advent of its boutique, with its iconic yellow-and-white striped awnings, Beverly Hills rivals the rest in style. If New York has its 5th Avenue, Beverly Hills now has Rodeo Drive. The city steals the show from Paris and New York. Franck Sinatra, Nancy Reagan, Diana Ross and Elizabeth Taylor can be seen shopping at the boutique.
The “Giorgio Beverly Hills® touch” is born!

Today, flagships such as Tiffany, Gucci and Vuitton grace Rodeo Drive, and Fred Hayman, whose memory is honored by a nearby street, is considered the “founding father” of this affluent thoroughfare.

The boutique where it was born is inseparable from its eponymous fragrance!

As soon as it was launched, to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary, customers swooned over the Giorgio Beverly Hills® fragrance: its elegance, power and audacity were a hit. In US department stores, it is sprayed into the air-conditioning system. Women breathed in the scent of luxury, and were entranced… The fragrance was imprinted on memories. By May 1983, readers of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar were sniffing its aroma in the pages of their magazines. Giorgio Beverly Hills® was the first fragrance to be offered as a scent strip in the press. Sales soared. Its success soon spread beyond the borders of America and seduced old Europe. Giorgio Beverly Hills® crossed borders, and in 1985 French women discovered it exclusively at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, where one of the most beautiful catwalk events was held to celebrate its European launch. Over $100 million in sales were generated in four years – a flamboyant start!

Intense, daring and warm, Giorgio brings together the finest natural ingredients in one bottle. It exhales a bouquet of heady white flowers: Jasmine, Gardenia, Ylang-Ylang and Tuberose assert their strength in the heart notes, while Orange Blossom and Bergamot offer a fresher, fruitier top note. Captivating, bewitching Tuberose forms a perfect harmony with Sandalwood, Patchouli and Vanilla in the base notes. Generous and concentrated, it reflects a sunny, facetious and free opulence. The linear construction of its olfactory pyramid allows tuberose to linger for a long time. Ranking among the longest-lasting fragrances on the market, it is one of the great classics of women’s perfumery.

At the time of its launch, because of its power, access to certain restaurants in New York County was even forbidden to women wearing Giorgio!

Classic, simple, slender and elegantly curvaceous, evoking a woman’s silhouette according to Fred Hayman’s wishes, the Giorgio Beverly Hills® bottle was inspired by a Bacarrat crystal vase found at Tiffany!

The gold liquid is transparent, revealing the Giorgio Beverly Hills® logo in gold lettering. It ends with a faceted gold cap, topped by the Giorgio crest and its two prancing horses, with all the class and ardor of the jet-set. The vertical case with its yellow and white stripes, the visual code of Giorgio juice since its origins, recalls the blinds of the legendary store.

Warm and cheerful, they reflect a Hollywood lifestyle in sunny California.

Since 1995, a Giorgio Beverly Hills® Christmas bear has been offered every year as a limited edition with the 90 ml eau de toilette. This Teddy Bear, the fragrance’s ambassador, has become an unmissable event. Each time it is released during the festive season, fans and collectors alike snap up the stylish Teddy Bear in stores.
It is one of the top 30 best-sellers in stores and will celebrate its 20th edition in winter 2014-2015. Considered the companion of the Giorgio woman, accompanying her to destinations all over the world, it has become a veritable Giorgio Beverly Hills® mascot.
