In 2006, during a trip to Argentina, American Blake Mycoskie was touched by the poor condition of his friends’ feet. He then launched the TOMS brand, based on the One for One principle: for every pair of shoes purchased, a donation of a new pair is made to a child in need. The same concept has been launched with eyewear: a pair of TOMS glasses purchased will help a person in need to regain their sight.
On April 29, the 7th edition of One Day Without Shoes will take place. This is a global event designed to raise awareness of the health and education needs of underprivileged children.
Indeed, millions of children around the world live without shoes, and this prevents them from accessing education, as shoes are compulsory to enter a classroom. Walking barefoot also exposes them to injuries, infections and crippling illnesses.
Tomorrow, everyone can support the operation by photographing themselves barefoot and posting this image on social networks with the hashtag #withoutshoes, to interact with the world on this international initiative and make a contribution.
So don’t forget to take off your shoes for a good cause tomorrow, and be original!
