To celebrate Nicolas Bouvier – the emblematic figure of the 20th-century travel writer, whose cult book L’Usage du monde was published in 1963 – Louis Vuitton is publishing a collection of travel accounts, excerpts from his works and correspondence, some of which have never been published before. Doris Jakubec and Marlyse Pietri follow a chronological reading and a meticulously constructed itinerary from west to east, to get as close as possible to Bouvier’s conception of travel: thirst for wide open spaces and cultures, freedom to be, to come and go, to convey his knowledge of the world as accurately as possible. The book is also illustrated with photographs and drawings borrowed from the Nicolas Bouvier collection.
