For the 8th year running, the biggest names in fashion and jewelry, a dozen contemporary artists and a number of celebrities have put their talents to work for children, creating unique dolls that are true collector’s items, sometimes surprising, mimicking, mischievous or simply refined.
The Frimousses de Créateurs are on show to the general public free of charge until December 05, 2010 at the Petit Palais, the Paris Fine Arts Museum, with staging byOlivier Massart. They will then be auctioned on December 07, 2010 at Drouot Montaigne, under the authority of Maître Georges Delettrez and Maître Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr.
All the funds raised byUNICEF will be used to help the children of Darfur, providing concrete assistance to a population affected by an unprecedented humanitarian crisis through a vaccination program for women and children under one year of age.
Once again, the world’s leading Couture Houses have joined forces to help children in need around the globe. Chanel, Christian Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab, Gucci, Emilio Pucci, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and Missoni, among others, answered the call and presented us with dolls emblematic of their House’s style.
Over the past four years, Frimousses de Créateurs has broadened its horizons by inviting contemporary artists to create their own dolls. Artists such as Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Sign7 have come up with dolls for 2010 that are, to say the least, surprising and even unexpected.
Having joined the operation three years ago, jewelers such as Mauboussin, Valérie Messika and Poiray delighted our eyes.
For several years now, the Frimousses have been focusing on a particular theme, and this year’s 2010 edition, “Les Frimousses font leur cinéma” (Frimousses make their movies), features four very VIP dolls. Dior Homme and Guillaume Canet have created a doll of the famous director-actor, dressed in a life-like tuxedo. The Yamina Benguigui doll is dressed by couturier Georges Chakra. Marion Cottilard, always committed to the cause, made her own pretty figurine. The fourth doll is a majestic Isabelle Adjani dressed by Valérian.
Laeticia Hallyday has been patron of the event since 2005. ” In the field, I’m struck by the hope, smiles and dignity of the children and mothers. Vaccinating a child is essential; it’s the child’s first step. to save his life and give him a future…“, she confides.
The 2009 event raised 285,300 euros, all of which went to the vaccination program in Darfur. Let’s hope that 2010 will do just as well, if not better.
