Young Swiss designers Léonie and Marius form Mal-Aimée. The duo unveil their first collection in Paris, in the sumptuous setting of the Hotel Crillon.
After meeting on the studio benches of Geneva’s University of Arts and Design, the two friends began their careers together at Nina Ricci.
When you look at the collection, you sense that it was designed for a woman who is both confident and sensitive. As the two designers explain, « She’s a bit like that woman you don’t like at first sight. »
Mal-Aimée showcases a graphic collection, with precise cuts, cut-outs and blurred prints in fresh colors.
The range of colors is soft, straight out of a rainbow, with dark, sparkling and fluorescent touches giving the collection energy.
The shoulders are marked, both by the cut and the changes in materials and colors. Tapered pants are cut below the knee.
Smooth, shiny aspects, intertwining metallic embroidery on soft, flowing materials, alignments of topstitching giving a « quilted » look… The Swiss duo play with the subtle integration of textures.
The two designers like to reveal certain shapes and have fun disarticulating the body. For their first collection, Léonie et Marius were inspired by the American film Tranformers.
Materials, cuts, colors, extreme attention is paid to the choice of these elements. Mal-Aimée has introduced us to a modern vision of femininity and elegance.
