Bvlgari Allegra Baciami Ancora: The Gardenia-Vanilla Accord, Thickened

In contemporary perfumery, the exercise of intensity is often achieved through simple synthetic saturation or the reinforcement of linear ambery woods. The approach taken by Jacques Cavallier to convert the eau de parfum Baciami into an extract under the name Baciami Ancora follows a different logic: thickening the floral weave through counterpoint rather than through stretching. Gardenia, a creamy and traditionally fleeting note whose laboratory reconstruction demands a millimetre-precise dosage of green and milky facets, ceases here to be a springtime motif. It anchors itself to a vanilla absolute worked in its darker reflections, whose unctuousness is immediately put into tension by the bitterness of Peruvian balsam, the bite of black pepper and the dry sting of cinnamon essence.

This olfactory construction seeks not effusion but friction. By introducing cedar and a touch of ginger to frame the bouquet, the perfumer withdraws the floral-vanilla duo from regressive gourmand sweetness. The accord deliberately gains weight, acquiring an almost tactile texture that converses with its container.

For at Bvlgari, the Roman evocation avoids literal quotation in favour of architectural analogy. The tinted glass silhouette of the Allegra collection abandons the ruby transparencies of previous launches for a deep, opaque and dense carmine shade. The fluting sculpted onto the cap and base echoes the geometric rhythm of an ancient column shaft, enclosing a curved body like a high-jewellery cabochon. While the line’s own protocol calls for the addition of supporting essences (notably a musky base intended to soften the edges and smooth the trail), the pure formula retains an earthbound presence. The red no longer signals a declarative intention; it marks the mass of a matter that has chosen to settle motionless within the glass.
