SUQQU Blur Liquid Lip: Japanese Beauty Reinvents the Lipstick

There is, in Japanese aesthetic philosophy, a word the West took several decades to truly understand: kasumi. Mountain mist. That visual quality — blurred, luminous, suspended between presence and absence — has long guided painting, gardens, textiles. SUQQU, the Tokyo cosmetics house built on the conviction that beauty is born of the right gesture rather than excess, now gives it an unprecedented form on the lips. The Blur Liquid Lip, expected on 23 July 2026, is not just another lipstick. It is a complete reformulation of what it means to cover, to beautify, to last.

The formula, or the art of the veil without weight

The question SUQQU poses with this formula has watchmaker-like precision: how to achieve colour intensity without compromising comfort? The answer lies in a remarkable chemical balance. An increased content of volatile oils, paired with reduced absorbent powders, creates what the house calls an ultra-thin, airy veil. The formula glides on, wraps the lips, never tugs. Its soft-blur finish — a modern matte with that touch of diffuse radiance reminiscent of slightly overexposed photographs — softens the appearance of lip fine lines. This is not camouflage: it is elegant optical neutralisation.

Wear is ensured by a film-forming agent commonly used in mascara formulations, which is why the product adheres to the lips without weighing them down or leaving a tacky feel. Lightweight, silky-touch oils complete the formula to maintain hydration. Transfer-proof — something busy women recognise as a genuine feat rather than a marketing promise.

Six shades, six states of the gaze

SUQQU names its shades like moments. The Blur Liquid Lip palette comprises six proposals, each bearing a Japanese name that speaks to its nature better than any Pantone number. 01 YUZURIHAIRO is a warm beige tinged with a subtle touch of red, the colour of old wood interiors in the autumn sun. 02 KASUMIZOME is a nude pink of an almost unreal delicacy, drawn directly from the concept of kasumi. 03 BARAKASUMI brings the depth of a pink tinged with modern sensuality, neither loud nor faded. 04 KAORIOBORE, a mauve-brown with bluish undertones, is the shade for those seeking an assumed sophistication, verging on the dramatic. 05 BENIKOTOBA, a fashion red of bewitching allure, is the statement. 06 AKESHIZU, a brick brown elevated by a vermilion undertone, closes the palette like the final line of a well-written story.

The packaging, or the coherence of the gesture

The minimalist square silhouette of the case, with its soft-matte texture echoing the finish of the lips, is one of those rare cosmetic objects that slip unobtrusively into any pouch. The applicator, designed to precisely follow the curve of the lips, promises a crisp outline in a single pass. SUQQU has this rare habit of aligning object and promise: what one sees matches what one feels when using it. The Blur Liquid Lip (5g, 43 euros) will be available at Le Bon Marché and on CultBeauty.com from 23 July 2026.

It remains to be seen whether this mountain mist, translated into lipstick, will find its following at a time when French beauty is torn between maximalism and a return to the natural. SUQQU, for its part, is not hesitating.
