Designers are already projecting themselves into the future with innovative garments and increasingly spectacular catwalk staging, featuring images, holograms and perfect clones. With interviews with Jean-Paul Gaultier, Philipp Plein and Iris van Herpen. Fashion show stagings always tell stories, real or fictional. But what struck us most this year was the journey into the future. Fashion projects itself and always hopes to be one step ahead. Places with new curves, such as the Louis Vuitton foundation, and flat screens that invade the staging. Louis Vuitton’s displays are almost chilling. The call of the cosmos is heard in the box office hit Gravity. Clothes take on a new dimension, with innovative materials and surprising designs. Some garments crystallize, to the point of questioning our relationship with the body and the human being, as in this astonishing staging by designer Iris van Herpen. As society and the world change, so does fashion. What new heroines are inspiring designers? Is it science fiction or the near future? Tomorrow, will we all be clones or urban warriors, multiplying until we all look exactly alike? Will clothing be the only recognizable element? One thing is certain: through their stagings, the designers are leading us into new reflections on the future…
