The Thames River in London and the Seine River in Paris inspired Dior’s men’s lines creative director Kim Jones for his 2023-2024 winter collection. This collection highlights circulation, ease and fluidity, reflecting the swirls and flows of water. This dynamic is also reminiscent of the one sought by Yves Saint Laurent, who took over Dior at only 21 years old, one of the youngest designers in history. The models absorb the lessons of the past to apply them to the present and the future: the clothes hybridize and metamorphose in original ways, adapting to the wearer.
The outfits in the collection transpose and transform the archives, like the sailor’s outfit Marine, which unfolds in cavalry serge and also becomes a long fisherman’s blouse. The vernacular language of knitwear is subverted by a sculptural approach to styling and draping, mixed with the art of tailoring. The idea of simplicity is felt everywhere, as if to belied the precision and complexity of these creations.
In short, the Dior Winter 2023-2024 collection is an ode to water, its strength and beauty, while offering an innovative and creative vision of fashion, mixing traditional and contemporary codes, to offer unique and personal garments. A collection that perfectly reflects the spirit of the House of Dior, both classic and avant-garde, where the past feeds the future.
