Romanticism and conquering allure at Walter Van Beirendonck…Every Walter Van Beirendonck collection is built beyond the garment. The Antwerp designer takes advantage of the catwalk to divulge messages about the world around him, directly reflected in his wardrobe. The romantic dandy takes on the allure of a conqueror. Jackets and tails are built to break down with snap buttons. Belts, kimono jackets and baggy pants are inspired by the world of judo. The surfer, as seen by Walter, arrives in a graphic and colorful spindle or jumpsuit. We find the designer’s essentials, such as workers’ overalls and loose-fitting T-shirts. The work on materials – from brocades to thick cottons – remains the starting point, right through to the printed paintings created by artist Scooter Laforge.
