Saint Laurent Paris has definitely succeeded in its aim to breathe new life into the brand with ultra-grunge artistic director Hedi Slimane. The stars are not mistaken: the brand’s most recent red carpet appearances were on the backs of actress Rachel Mc Adams and Miley Cyrus, the latter in a strangely successful rock conversion.
On a more personal note, Saint Laurent Paris had intrigued me since the arrival of Slimane, who had previously dazzled me at Dior Homme. I recently visited the Saint Laurent flagship on Avenue Montaigne, and it was without doubt the best luxury boutique experience I’ve ever had. Basically, I wanted to see the pieces and materials up close, but in less than twenty minutes I found myself in a huge fitting room, all marble and mirrors, futuristic atmosphere (a little claustrophobic), with a sublime suede jacket on my shoulders. Suffice to say, the jacket never left the boutique, but the Saint Laurent girl who accompanied me on my journey knew her subject inside out, and it was a delight to listen to her talk about the brand.
YES to Hedi Slimane!
postscript: I’m looking forward to the release of the two biopics on the life of Yves Saint Laurent, with Pierre Niney or Gaspard Ulliel?
