Pantone unveils the trend colors for autumn 2013

With its Fall 2013 Fashion Color Report (FCR), Pantone enables designers to capture the diversity of autumn hues. Its color palettes invite experimentation…

To coincide with New York Fashion Week, Pantone LLC – a subsidiary of X-Rite, the world’s leading color authority and provider of standardized palettes to the design industry – today publishes its PANTONE® Fashion Color Report Fall 2013. This guide presents all the season’s flagship colors, the new stars of future designer collections. The guide details the 10 star colors for men’s and women’s fashion, with sketches and quotes from designers, as well as photos of busts. The guide is available as a free download at www.pantone.com/fall2013.

“Just as tree leaves take on new hues in autumn, consumers will have all the elements to revamp their look and adapt their wardrobe,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “The Fall 2013 palette leaves plenty of room for experimentation.”

The colors presented in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report are taken from the PANTONE FASHION + HOME color chart, the most widely used and recognized standardized color system in the world. Season after season, Pantone works closely with designers and designers
presenting collections at New York Fashion Week and elsewhere, to gather their opinions on trend colors, the inspirations that guide their color choices, and the associated philosophy. This information is used to produce the PANTONE Fashion Color Report, a year-round reference for fashion enthusiasts, journalists and sales professionals.

Discovering the feminine palette
In this season of falling temperatures, designers reveal the different facets of autumn with collections cleverly designed to enhance and brighten consumers’ outfits. Colors come together to set the tone of the moment, with compositions that are by turns sophisticated and structured, bright and cheerful, understanding our intrinsic need for a wardrobe varied enough to reflect our emotions.

As the seasons change, so do the spring greens. Emerald, a multi-faceted emerald green, continues to sparkle and fascinate, bringing a touch of luxury and elegance to the palette, while Linden Green, with its yellow tones, brings lightness and clarity to the more intense autumn tones. Marry it with Mykonos Blue, a clean blue that invites meditation, for a classic yet casual look.

The exotic Acai lends mystery and richness to the palette, and can be combined with other colors to create a variety of powerful autumnal compositions. This elegant violet will form a majestic duo with Emerald, or combine with the exuberant Samba Red for an expressive, spectacular look. Koi, a decorative orange that’s both dazzling and brilliant, is an assertive hue that will boost your wardrobe. Vivacious, a very intense and rebellious fuchsia, brings a burst of sensuality to the palette.

The marriage of Vivacious with the quiet strength of Deep Lichen Green, a dense green by nature, will form a dynamic juxtaposition, bringing together the two extremes of the seasonal palette. As a dark mercury gray, Turbulence embodies one of the two basic shades, alongside the intense and glamorous Carafe brown, that make for a sophisticated and more interesting break with the basic blacks usually worn in the colder months. These two neutrals, pillars of the palette, will blend gracefully with more outspoken colors such as Samba, Koi and Vivacious.

Discovering the men’s palette
This season, more than ever, will see a shift towards a unisex color palette. As with the women’s palette, color versatility will open the door to more experimentation as temperatures drop.

Lush Emerald, a sophisticated, vivid green, can be combined with Mykonos Blue or Linden Green to create an impeccable classic look. Acai adds a touch of exotic mystery when paired with bold colors such as Samba, while dynamic, decorative Koi adds an explosive orange zest to a neutral wardrobe. Deep Lichen Green also acts as an anchor color for the masculine palette: pair this nuanced moss green with the deep red Beaujolais for an elegant masculine look that’s quintessentially autumnal.

The unpredictable Turbulence grey and the warm, rich Carafe brown will also play a key role in menswear. These colors will serve as solid base shades for ready-to-wear throughout the cold season. Each of these neutrals will give rise to a very balanced look when combined with Beaujolais Red or Koi Orange.
