The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp celebrates its 350th anniversary in 2013. Along with those in Rome and Paris, it is one of the oldest art schools in the Western world. The prestigious Fashion department was created three hundred years after the Academy was founded. Two anniversaries, 350 years of the Academy and 50 years of the Fashion section, will be celebrated in 2013. The Antwerp Academy, MoMu, MAS, MRBA Antwerp and Antwerpen Open are joining forces under the banner “Happy Birthday Dear Academie!
The highlights of the celebrations will be the exhibitions at MAS and MoMu. There will also be ‘extramural’ projects featuring fashion and the visual arts. The Academy’s historic site will host various events and exhibitions. A publication, a project at the M HKA, a symposium on higher art education, a city walk and a heritage project on the traces of the Academy in Antwerp are also on the program.
