Fashionable yet protective eyewear
Summer’s well and truly here: the mercury soars, the sun shines brightly and everything would be perfect if we didn’t keep squinting, bothered by the intensity of the light. In fact, light intensity can be much more harmful than you think. Excessive brightness not only causes discomfort, but also slowly attacks the body. Of course, as we all know, skin that’s too exposed to the sun ages faster, gets sunburnt and is prone to cancer, so it’s essential to protect it with a suitable cream. But we don’t often think of our eyes, which also suffer from excessive summer sunlight. In fact, the eye has limited sun capital. Ultraviolet rays, in particular UVA, are harmful to eyesight: they can cause watering, infections and redness, as well as long-term damage to eyesight. If the cornea is overexposed, chronic keratitis can result. And if the retina is damaged, age-related macular degeneration is just around the corner. To preserve your sun capital, i.e. to let your eyes replenish the cells destroyed by UV rays, you need to choose the right glasses, without giving up on fashion!
Summer 2012 trends
As with suncream, there are different levels of protection for sunglasses, with 4 being recommended. If you wear prescription glasses, consider investing a little more in suitable sunglasses. If you’re afraid of the price, there are plenty of bargains on the Internet for sunglasses. Once you’ve done that, it’s up to you to choose the sunglasses you like! For summer 2012, bright colors are the trend. From glasses with thick temples to sportier ones with lenses that meet in one at nose level, don’t hesitate to opt for bright red or apple green. Of course, less eccentric personalities can opt for the timeless Ray Ban, which spans the decades without ever becoming ridiculous.
