This year again, Walter Van Beirendonck invites us into an ethereal yet gloomy universe, typical of his madness: while on the one hand we find strong connotations with the wacky work The Adventures ofAlice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll notably through the headgear: offbeat, elegant top hats reminiscent of the mad hatterWe can also find a more disturbing universe in the bondage trend, with harnesses sometimes worn next to the skin. Walter Van Beirendonck follows in the footsteps of his previous Fall/Winter 2013 collection, where he also addressed SM aspirations through references and nods to his famous line of masks. Of course, the collection’s key pieces are the turned-up shirt and bib shirt, the omnipresent pastel hue on his suits, a fine range of bow ties, as well as knee-high socks and glovewear branded with the brand’s name. White on black. As for the musical set, it perfectly accentuated the image the Belgian designer wanted to convey: elegant, offbeat, eerie and mysterious. Shaun Rossa very famous albino model and model for the show, was the perfect embodiment of this cold, yet wild man.
