The Comme des Garçons spring-summer collection takes to the skies for a moment of white poetry, set against a neat backdrop of plastic bubbles.

Here, no assigned seats, no stage, no timing… this collection, presented at a fashion show in Paris, is reborn. This is not a fashion show, but an installation, designed by Rei Kawakubo, where visitors are free to admire the models up close. On view until October 7, 2012 at Les Docks – cité de la Mode et du Design.

A creator of ruptures, Rei Kawakubo transforms the classic fashion show and hijacks the codes of haute couture. With White Drama and her quasi-monochrome models, she magnifies the great stages of life: birth, marriage, death and transcendence.
Comme des garcons White Drama
White Drama is pure, ceremonial white in all its nuances. Floral blossoms, handkerchief leaflets, musty fabrics, here lace holes inspired by a christening gown and there an ornamental obi-style bow, large coats and tall hats reminiscent of Sevillian Holy Week processions, the wedding dress like the silky envelope of an insect, and the fabrics, by turns raw and refined, shiny and matte, opaque and transparent, that rise, breathe and blossom, borrowing the vital forces of nature from the mineral, vegetable and animal kingdoms.

White Drama is a tour de force, for these skilful fashion architectures emanate an immaterial dimension that touches the spiritual, transporting you into the unclassifiable world of Rei Kawakubo.
Curated by Olivier Saillard, Director of the Musée Galliera.
