Frank Sorbier

This season, painter and sculptor Richard Texier will be the patron of the Frank Sorbier Haute Couture Summer 2012 collection. His presence and work were symbolized by two of his sculptural works, Grand conte chinois and Cosmos, as well as a bustier painted for the collection. “Ebauche” is inspired by Greek divinities, the voluptuous forms of antique statues and nature, but also by Africa, exoticism and ethnic culture from around the world. Composed of thirty-one modestly numbered models, the tone is set from the very first piece. It’s a simple cotton and silk dress with an academic drape. This is followed by a ballet of resin and fiberglass bustiers molded to the bust and chest, turning the mannequins into statues with bodies of alabaster or black stone. These are fitted over ample high-waisted skirts and pareos in raffia, linen, sisal, hemp embroidered with shells, satin and other silks in natural, earthy, raw colors. A collection where the cosmic universe of dreams and divinities blends with earthly culture in a timeless space, like a paradise regained.
