A brand born in the Montreal cold has, in theory, no need to conquer the busiest avenues in the world. Moose Knuckles nonetheless does so, methodically: two new addresses, a campaign conceived as an urban manifesto, and an expansion strategy that resembles a choice of terrain more than a race for coverage.
Two addresses, two style capitals
On 3 September, Moose Knuckles opened the doors of its new store at 744 North Michigan Avenue, in the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. A week later, on 10 September, the brand settled in turn at 200 Kurfürstendamm, Berlin’s most recognisable thoroughfare. The two addresses were not chosen at random: they occupy some of the most contested commercial positions in their respective cities, where visibility is negotiated as much as rent. For a house still associated a few years ago with technical outerwear alone, setting up on these avenues amounts to claiming a place in the urban fashion landscape, and no longer only in that of winter sportswear.
From a Canadian parka to a lifestyle label
The brand’s press release is explicit on this point: these two openings do not merely mark a geographical extension but the continuation of a deeper transformation, that of a Montreal outerwear maker repositioning itself as a lifestyle house with an international vocation. The new spaces, described as an evolved retail concept, no longer simply present seasonal collections: they are conceived as places of experience, able to host activations and to bring the brand to life beyond the mere act of purchase.
City Tundra, or the city as wild landscape
Both openings coincide with the launch of City Tundra, the brand’s global FW26 campaign, which explores the dynamic relationship between natural and urban landscapes. Far from mere visual packaging, the campaign presents itself as a celebration of individuality, creativity and those who move through the city by their own rules — a way of anchoring the brand’s polar identity in the rhythm of contemporary metropolises rather than setting it against them. The story does not stop at the shop windows: it will continue with dedicated activations at ComplexCon Los Angeles on 3 and 4 October, then directly in the new stores, in Chicago on 17 October and in Berlin on 29 October.
Selective expansion rather than all-out coverage
What Moose Knuckles articulates here is an openly asserted doctrine of expansion: a presence chosen in cities deemed culturally influential, embodied by distinctive spaces, experiences and a pronounced sense of community, rather than an undifferentiated multiplication of points of sale. An approach that recalls that of other houses which have wagered on geographic rarity to preserve a capital of desirability, while ensuring a physical presence in the capitals that define the era.
It remains to be seen whether this rhetoric of urban selectivity will survive the test of commercial time, or whether it quietly heralds a broader acceleration of the label on other continents.
