S.T. Dupont: Surface as Gesture

The technique known as “popotée” holds a special place in S.T. Dupont’s craftsmanship. Using a special sponge, the artisan applies irregular strokes to the lacquer until the surface shimmers in the light.

The technique combines precision with a sense of chance. Each application creates a unique depth, akin to a painterly effect. The lacquer is no longer merely a finish; it becomes a canvas of nuances.

This technique can be found on several of the brand’s products, including the Classique and Line D Eternity fountain pens and rollerball pens. The models mentioned feature red with gold finishes, black with palladium finishes, and blue with gold finishes.
