The Met Gala 2023 welcomed the world’s biggest stars, including actors Harris Dickinson and James McAvoy. The two British actors caused quite a stir when they appeared on the event’s red carpet in classically elegant looks by dunhill, a tribute to the famous designer Karl Lagerfeld.
Harris Dickinson wore a three-piece black barathea outfit with a double-breasted jacket, vest and evening pants, paired with a striped poplin point collar shirt, chalk-striped Worsted wool tie and handmade Oxford evening shoes. He also had a Cartier Tank Must watch and a pair of Cartier Tradition Ecus Comptes clip-brooches from 1935.
James McAvoy, meanwhile, wore a tailored midnight-blue evening jacket in merino wool and mohair, matching evening pants, a white marcella vest, a white cotton voile wing-neck shirt, a black and white silk polka-dot tie and handmade black jodhpur boots. He also carried a Panthère pocket watch by Cartier, a new Reverso Tribute Chronograph watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre and a handmade black wooden fan, a nod to one of Lagerfeld’s signature accessories.
Simon Holloway, artistic director of dunhill, explained that both outfits were inspired by the elegant sobriety of Lagerfeld’s early aesthetic, drawing inspiration in particular from Count Robert de Montesquiou, a French writer, poet, art collector and socialite who was a source of inspiration for Lagerfeld. The outfits were made from top-quality materials with meticulous attention to detail.
The Met Gala 2023 was a high-profile event that saw the biggest celebrities from the world of fashion and entertainment flock to New York to celebrate art, creativity and fashion.
