CHAMPAGNE DELAMOTTE BLANC DE BLANCS 2014 A STAR IN THE DELAMOTTE CONSTELLATION

A great champagne is first and foremost a great wine: this is the principle, the demand, the founding challenge of Maison Delamotte since 1760 – and that of its sister house in Mesnil-sur-Oger, the legendary Champagne Salon, named after the creator of Blanc de blancs in the 1910s.

2014 adds to the constellation of Delamotte vintages: 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2012, unforgettable harvests that sparkle like stars. They are all part of the same constellation, that of Delamotte’s great Blanc de Blancs.

2014 in Champagne: at the end of an angry year, Chardonnay shines brightly

After a mild, rainy autumn and winter, the vines budded very early. Magnificent weather set in during the spring, with record-breaking sunshine and drought. The flowers bloomed in favorable conditions at the beginning of June. However, the scarcity of precipitation gave us hope of rain. And rain it is! There’s a complete change of scenery during the summer: it rains abundantly and August is even graced with autumnal temperatures. It wasn’t until September that warm, sunny and, above all, very dry weather returned. Ideal conditions for grape ripening. Chardonnay flourished, growing in strength right up to the day of picking, which began on September 11 for the Côte des Blancs grands crus. Spared from the parasite outbreaks that have developed here and there inChampagne, our Chardonnays have exceptional bunch weights – over 150 grams – a comfortable yield, well-marked acidity and optimal ripeness. The disquieting weather of the wine-growing season will not have had any effect on the long career that awaits Delamotte Blanc de blancs 2014.

Delamotte Blanc de blancs 2014, the quintessence of Côte des Blancs in a glass

The wines of Mesnil-sur-Oger (beautiful acidity, purity, chalky minerality, saline and salivating, long-lived), Avize (balance and structure), Oger(warmth, fullness, generosity, fruit presence),finally Cramant (minerality with smoky notes),Chouilly (structure, length) and Oiry (soft acidity and roundness), form a sextet of excellence, transcended in the dece Delamotte Blanc de blancs 2014 blend. Aged on lees for six long years – which are nothing compared to this wine’s cellaring power – then tasted in the first quarter of 2021, we finally taste it. We hold our breath, time seems suspended, it’s a moment of grace we’ve been given to experience.

Delamotte Blanc de blancs 2014, an enchantment of the senses

Its pale gold color with green reflections highlights the fine string of bubbles that rise to the surface of the disk in the glass. On the nose, the wine betrays nothing of its noble origins, with a bouquet that is energetic, pure, straightforward and deep – a wine with a strong character!

We appreciate its clean attack, fresh mouthfeel and mouth-watering minerality. Gourmets are not to be outdone: round fruit and brioche notes explode in a dreamy finish.

Delamotte Blanc de blancs 2014,

a moment of freshness, an eternity of flavours

Today, it can be enjoyed at the start of a good meal, with a few gougères. And to get off the beaten track, it’s a surprising pairing as an aperitif: a few crunchy veal sweetbreads a la plancha are a perfect match, but it’s at the table that it reveals all the facets of its complexity. Sea urchin excites its iodized notes, and the harmony is light and airy. It awakens the tasty Piedmontese meat agnolotti and explodes in flavor with the arrival of Parmigiano Reggiano. The most daring will be tempted by a Wagyu beef tartar with Tarbouriech oysters, an unusual land and sea pairing that perfectly expresses the richness of Delamotte Blanc de blancs2014.
