A masterpiece from the Shang Xia collection joins the British Museum’s permanent collections

JOINS THE BRITISH MUSEUM’S PERMANENT COLLECTIONS A masterpiece from Shang Xia’s “Heart and Soul” collection, the Xi Pi lacquered wood box has been added to the British Museum’s permanent collections. It will now be on display in
, the room devoted to China and South Asia.

Indeed, this is the first time that the British Museum has permanently acquired a
work of contemporary Chinese art, which now sits alongside other ancient art treasures reflecting the splendor of centuries-old Eastern civilization.
